Abilene Dinner Table Event slated for March 27

"The Abilene Dinner Table event, designed to bring together people from different parts of the community over a meal, will be held March 27.

In the past, the dinners were held in late January. Officials at Connecting Caring Communities, which coordinates the dinners, decided to try a different time frame for 2010."

Abilenians meet, discuss issues at fifth annual Dinner Table

Ted and Ellen Presley have attended the annual Abilene Dinner Table since its inception in 2005. The couple visited and discussed community issues with 11 other Abilenians at TaMolly's Mexican Restaurant on Ridgemont Drive on Saturday night.

"I liked the group," Ellen said. "I encourage the Dinner Table to continue doing this."

This year 115 people in 15 groups across Abilene met in homes, restaurants and churches as part of the event, which was sponsored by Connecting Caring Communities, a nonprofit initiative that aims to strengthen the foundation of the community by developing relationships."

Conversation, laughter and food were on the menu at Martha Kiel's home on Sayles Boulevard, where she hosted one of the Abilene Dinner Table events Saturday night.

The dinner event, spearheaded by the Reporter-News in 2005 and now sponsored by Connecting Caring Communities, is designed to bring people of differing backgrounds together for a meal and to initiate conversation about local issues.
